2nd Fund Raising Concert at Southside House
After the sell-out success of the first fundraising concert and supper, the European Boxwood and Topiary Society held another musical evening to raise funds for its innovative ‘Hand, Eye and Heart’ Creative Topiary Design module for British Horticultural Colleges.
This new module is intended to stimulate a broader interest amongst potential students in the gardening profession, and alleviate the shortage of trained gardeners forecast by 2020. The course presents Topiary as the art and craft of clipping and training plants for aesthetic purposes, ranging from formal architectural shapes to abstract green garden sculptures and organic flowing cloud hedging. It will actively promote creativity and provide techniques for a deeper envisioning process that will put more feeling into the craft of garden making.
The fundraising evening was held in the house and gardens of the magical 17th century Southside House in Wimbledon, London, formerly the family house of Axel Munthe, famous author of ‘The Story of San Michele’. Once again those that attended were treated to a delightful evening with drinks, canapés & a buffet supper and a chamber music recital including EBTS member Sarah Aaronson OBE, members of the London International Orchestra and Georgia Ginsberg (mezzo-soprano).
