Historic Gardens in Northamptonshire
16 July 2019
The day started at The Prebendal Manor at Nassington, with refreshments and a talk about the award winning reconstruction of a medieval garden.
The second visit was to Elton Hall, near Peterborough. The gardens were first laid out in the 1670’s but have been completely revitalised over the last 35 years. The topiary was magnificent and we were privileged to also be shown round the private gardens. Much of the topiary we learned was clipped by ETBS UK member James Crebbin-Bailey, of Topiary Arts.
After lunch at a pub in the village of Elton we visited Rockingham Castle, famous for its vast 400 year old ‘Elephant Hedge’ and views over the Welland valley. The day ended with a cream tea at Walker’s House at the castle.
