Our day begins at Anderson Manor in Dorset, a grade 1 listed House & home for the Isaac family for the last 40 years.

Anderson Manor was listed in the Domesday Manor, but the house, as you see it now, was restored by Mrs Gordon Greatrix between 1902 & 1913 and it was at this time the present gardens were laid out by her.  They include the lime walk, topiary, bowling green, the gravelled ladies walk beside the river and the walled kitchen garden with newly laid out parterre.  The garden has some nice structures made of both brick & flint.

St Michael’s church is now redundant but will be open for our visit.

From 1942 Anderson Manor was the base for The Small-Scale Raiding force – 62 Commando, sponsored by the SOE they specialised in night time raids across the channel often to obtain prisoners for interrogation.

We will leave here heading north for lunch in Shaftesbury famous for its steep cobbled hill used for the Hovis adverts and a large Snowdrop festival in February.

Lunch will be at The Royal Chase Hotel (TBC) from where there is a short hop into Somerset to visit the much anticipated Stavordale Priory.

Without doubt the highlight for the day will our visit to Stavordale Priory home to Sir Cameron Macintosh & Michael Le Poer Trench.

Stavordale Priory in Charlton Musgrove Somerset is a grade 1 list house formally a Priory built by the Augustinian Canons in the 13th century converted to a house in 1538.

The gardens were originally laid out by garden designer Georgia Langton, but now overflows with features developed by Michael La Poer Trench over the last 20 years.  Described by Gardens Illustrated as “singing with creativity & invention” we will be able to wander around the borders, sculpted topiary, elegant lawns with the occasional surprise feature so watch out for those.  A garden theatre as you would expect and much for us all to enjoy.

Our visit will finish with some simple refreshments before we all leave for home inspired ponding future changes to our own plots no doubt!
